Tonic Surf Therapy was co-founded between Kwame Salam and Shon Devey.
Kwame was approached by Shon Devey of WWAMH (West Wales Action for Mental Health) with the suggestion of starting a Welsh surf therapy program to assist with mental and physical wellbeing. Shon had studied american projects such as 'Surfers Healing' and knew Kwame's background would suit a similar program.
Kwame moved to Wales in his mid-teens and fell in love with the stunning coastline despite the challenges of settling into a new place. Over the subsequent years, he embedded himself deeply in the community, and the sea became an integral part of his daily life - a non-negotiable ritual that keeps him balanced.<\/p>
Having run a surf school for 22 years, Kwame is well known throughout West Wales because of the hundreds of people TONIC works with each year.<\/p>

Tonic's journey into surf therapy began over 15 years ago with a project called Surf-able, which brought together many of the founding figures in the UK surf therapy movement.

The name \"Tonic\" perfectly captures our mission. It comes from the Welsh word \"Ton,\" which means wave, combined with the healing sense of a tonic - something good for you.
